The Study Of Fu Yongliang’s Aria Of Laosheng In Shangdang Laozi

Shangdang Laozi, an important type of local dramas in Shanxi Province, arose in Daoguang reign, Qing Dynasty, more than170years ago. Shangdang Laozi can be traced back to Wu’an Laozi in Heibei Province. About the Daoguang reign, Qing Dynasty, Wu’an Laozi was introduced into Licheng, shanxi Province. After integrating with the local dialect and folk songs, it gradually became a type of Shangdang drama with the local style. In the process of its development, Shangdang Laozi, in the Guangxu reign, Qing Dynasty, was divided into two different artistic genres:the southern style and the western style, owing to the different influence from Shangdang Bangzi and Puzhou Bangzi. The two genres learned and absorbed from each other and as a result unified their styles.Many batches of outstanding performers had emerged in the process of its generation and development. Fu Yongliang was considered to be a distinguished representative of Shangaang Laozi in the contemporary age. For many years of his career, Fu fully inherited the aria of Laosheng (elderly scholar) of Shangdang Laozi and more importantly, formed his original and unique aria according to his own conditions so as to make great achievement to the enrichment and development of Shangdang drama.This paper, from the aspect of musicology, presented a thorough conclusion and analysis of Fu’s aria of Laosheng in Shangdang Laozi, and tried to explore his value to the present Shangdang Laozi drama through a study of his representative works.This paper was comprised of Four parts:Chapter one briefly introduced the history and musical structure of Shangdang Laozi as well as pointing out the object of the study-Fu Yongliang.Chapter two was a detailed analysis of Fu’s aria of Laosheng in Shangdang Laozi.Chapter three was an introduction to Fu’s artistic achievement and to the establishment of Fu’s art of Laosheng.Conclusion:summarizing Fu’s artistic style and proposing his value to the study of Shangdang Laozi.
