The21st century is the ocean century, ocean is very important to a country. China is a great ocean state, but it doesn’t have great power in the ocean. As the second largest trading nation in the world, China depends more and more on its foreign trade. However, Ocean freight is the most widely used form of transportation in foreign trade. As a result, Ocean is definitely important and useful to China. Indian Ocean, the most important main force of foreign trade and energy transportations of China, is meaningful to China. But in fact, China’s security on Indian Ocean is not optimistic. Many powerful ocean countries like the US, Russian and Japan take the Indian Ocean as an important area where they want to control and impact. We should attach importance to this phenomenon. What’s more, India is the biggest and most powerful country on coastlines all around the Indian Ocean, so the formulation and development its maritime strategy will certainly impact our country’s security and benefits. As a result, it’s necessary for us to study the contents, essence and characteristic of India’s maritime strategy, analyse the impacts on our country and work out the countermeasures. This paper aims to work out the countermeasures to the impacts according to study the actualities, development, contents, essence and characteristic of India’s maritime strategy and analyse the impacts on our country. It also can provide some countermeasures and suggestions about how to expand the new access to the Indian Ocean, how to ease the the Malacca strait problem and how to solve the security problems of energy transportation. The first part of this paper gives you a brief introduction on the actualities and development of India’s maritime strategy and makes a deep analysis of its contents, essence and characteristic. The second part analyzes the impact of India’s maritime strategy on China. The third part probes into our countermeasures to the India’s maritime strategy. The conclusion tells us that if we China wants to be a great state in the world, we must attach importance to the ocean. As India’s maritime strategy is developing and changing all the time, we must realize that we can’t avoid the confrontation between China and India. So we must calm down and respect the development of India’s maritime strategy. On the one hand, we should cooperate with India and some other countries in order to develop our own maritime strategy peacefully. On the other hand, we should strengthen the ocean force construction, reconstruct our maritime strategy, and approach challenges from India and other countries in a positive way. All of these can ensure that our foreign trade route is unimpeded, our coastline, territory and maritime zones are safe and Asian-Pacific region is peaceful and stable.
