Chinese verb could be divided into human action verb and non-human action verb.Currently, regarding the study of Chinese verb, it mainly refers to the study of humanaction verb, which has achieved fruitful results. However, there is no specific analysisregarding the identity and the difference between the use of "lai"and"qu" from the angleof non-human action and "lai"and"qu" from the angle of human action because of lackof thorough investigation."lai"and"qu"are two fundamental words in Modern Chinese,the application of them is frequent and complex, so the predecessors pay a lot ofattention to syntax、meaning、application and relevant format of them, but there is nospecific study of it. This paper mainly uses approaches such as valency theory, labelingtheory, cognitive grammar to study the use of "lai"and"qu" from the angle ofnon-human actionThe contents of this paper include following parts: first of all, the introduction part,which mainly summarizes the current use of "lai"and"qu" from the angle of non-humanaction and illustrates the studied object as well as its significance.The first chapter defines what “non-human action verb” is and illustrates itscharacteristics due to lack of definition. Based on investigating a great amount ofcorpuses, this paper sums up the characteristics of "lai"and"qu" from the angle ofnon-human action and generalizes from the aspect of annotation of dictionary as well asfrom the specific way and the abstract way.The second chapter analyses syntactic characteristics of "lai"and"qu" from theangle of non-human action. Verb could be divided into conscious verb and unconsciousverb according to whether the action is dominated consciously or unconsciously, it isshown by the study that “lai"and"qu" from the angle of non-human action isunconscious verb. This paper which is based on valency theory rather than from theunclear angle of dividing verb into transitive verb and intransitive verb, divide"lai"and"qu" from the angle of non-human action into monovalent verb and divalentverb. Divalent verb could be with object, which observes the ability being with object of"lai"and"qu" from the angle of non-human action."lai"and"qu" have always been important directional verbs in Modern Chinese, so we regard "lai"and"qu" from theangle of non-human action as directional complement and analyze its affirmative use aswell as its negative use in imperative function.The third chapter explains symmetry and asymmetry of "lai"and"qu". Thesymmetry is discussed in three aspects-type of "lai"and"qu" with object, type of withcomplement and features of meaning.The fourth chapter mainly compares the use of "lai"and"qu" from the angle ofnon-human action and "lai"and"qu" from the angle of human action from theperspective that if it could make up as a linkage structure, from the perspective that if itcould be directional complement and from the perspective of level of strength ofconsciousness.This paper uses method of description combined with method of interpretation, aswell as inductive method combined with deductive method during the research,dedicated to discussing the characteristics of "lai"and"qu" from the angle of non-humanaction in the aspect of meaning, syntax and application and illustrating the identity andthe difference between the use of "lai"and"qu" from the angle of non-human action and"lai"and"qu" from the angle of human action,which will provide theoretical basis forstudying verbs from the angle of non-human action in the future.
