English interjections are common words in casual conversation of English nativespeakers, which people can use to make their speaking more impressive and vivid.Interjections originated from the use of onomatopoeia and are mainly used to express people’semotion or the state of feelings. As one of the ten parts of speech in English, the Englishinterjection have long been the object of some linguists’ attention by its special syntactic andflexible prosodic quality and semantic deciphering. From the existing references, the study ofinterjections are mainly focused on their linguistic level, such as grammar, phonology andsemantic, which have help people get better understanding about interjections.The use of interjections is not only a linguistic phenomenon, but also a pragmaticphenomenon. In recent years, some pragmatic linguists turn their study focus on interjectionsfrom a pure language level to their pragmatic applications, and summarize some pragmaticfunctions and expressive functions of English interjections. People use pragmatic strategies tofulfill their communicative goals. According to pragmatic linguists, people can apply seriesstrategies in the framework of pragmatic theories and principles; Turn is the right of speech.People control turns by wording so as to fully show their ideas or just be a good listener toothers.Based on analyzing the interjections used in English TV series, the author tries to find outhow interjections work to perform pragmatic strategies in the framework of pragmaticprinciples and theories. In this thesis, by analyzing interjections lines combining with theCooperative Principle, Politeness Principle and Turn-taking, the study will probe into howinterjections perform pragmatic strategies for people to achieve their communicative goals.This study is expected to be assistance to English learners and help them express themselves incross-culture communications better.
