| Eileeen Chang is often mentioned as a legendary figure in contemporary literature. She put her personal experiences and emotion as well as her view of the world and life into her creation in different periods. What she has suffered in childhood and her prematurely disappointment of life both affected her creation later in adulthood, thus to some extent, her work has always possessed the nature of autobiographical.By comparing her autobiographical works of different periods, this paper attempts to find out the differences and similarities of these autobiographies, then to analysis the change of her aesthetics. Eileen Chang has been trying to achieve self-identity and self-build by writing early or later, and to construct her own unique view towards morality and life through the shaping of the characters, which follows the very author’s complex and personality polymorph self. Her later works, such as "The fall of the pagoda""The book of change" and "The small reunion", face the trauma and self disclosure, not only inherited the autobiographical novel form of Chinese modern literary pedigree created by Yudafu, but also reflected the feature "repent and confession" of western autobiography, which precisely correspond to her life experiences both in China and the west. This kind of human nature showing and self analysis has surpassed any Chinese modern form of the autobiographical or "confession", through the show, she accomplished her self trauma treatment and self-redemption. From a personal perspective of life, the writer has combined writing, personal experiences, spiritual world together and realized self autonomy.The paper consists of three chapters. The first chapter focuses on how Eileen Chang’s creation to integrate into the women autobiographical trend wakening in the "May Fourth Movement" and what she has inherited and learned when she put herself in the tradition of women autobiographical creation. The second chapter basically analysis autobiographical of her works of different periods, and the restatement of the traumatic come with her self selection of her memory and inevitable fiction of autobiography, the different version of these autobiographies also reflected her transforming in aesthetics and writing styles. The "the small reunion" is much mature compared with the rest of her works in techniques and spirits. The third chapter analysis the relation between Eileen Chang’s character and her creation, her idea was influenced by the classicism, her work reflected nihilism, and individualism was always a feature of her creation. |
