Before the Tang Dynasty, tea drinking belongs to a medicine drink or an extensive expression of quenching one’s thirst, Tang will later enjoy a way of decocting tea carefully and imbibing it slowly in small sips. Thus, as a significant transitional period of the development of tea drinking and tea utensils, tea culture and ceramic tea set in this period are objects deserving of study. Vigorous development was scored in ceramic tea set by various forms during the Tang Dynasty, among the many tea sets, the author is particularly fond of the teacup, and takes a special historical background of the celadon porcelain in Yue Kiln and the white porcelain in Xing Kiln during the Tang Dynasty as the range of research, via arranging and summing up a large number of images and literal materials, to compare the artistic characteristics between the celadon teacup in Yue Kiln and the white teacup in Xing Kiln from three aspects, which are workmanship, artistic styles and the market. Both are a generation of well-known kilns, each has its own merits, and each has provided a vast bulk of learning experience and operational technology for the later kilns, at the same time, plays a decisive role on the innovation of later generations. Based on the comprehensive research, this paper offers a useful supplement to the artistic characteristics of the celadon teacup in Yue Kiln and the white teacup in Xing Kiln during the Tang Dynasty.
