| The creation of Yue kiln celadon marks a transition for human race from pottery-making to porcelain-making,which not only is a milestone in the history of the development of ceramic technology, but also makes China the first country that invented porcelain. In Silongkou, one of the typical kilns of Yue kiln,a large number of porcelain was unearthed, with a clear horizon of archeology, showing the evolving characteristics and techniques of Yue celadon from the Late Tang to Southern Song Dynasty. The Koryo celadon was developed under the influence of Yue celadon of China, thus they have a very close relationship.Buan,at North Jeolla in Korea, has a great many Koryo celadon’s sites, where celadon of superior quality was unearthed. In order to compare the celadon of these two places in a relatively temporal and spatial concentrated scenario, and better complete the comparative study of celadon in China and South Korea, the study takes Silongkou celadon produced in the Five Dynasties(AD 907979 years)and the Southern Song Dynasty(AD 11271279 years)and Koryo celadon samples from Jinseo-ri and Yucheon-ri at Buan,North Jeolla in Korea from the 12th century to the 13th century as the main subjects. With the help of modern scientific and technological means of detection, the study has carried on a preliminary inquisition to the difference of composition, structure and property of those two kinds of celadon and its underlying reason. The study uses energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence spectrometer(EDXRF)to analyze the chemical composition of samples’body and glaze, and concludes their characteristics and causes on the basis of comparative analysis;adopts scanning electron microscopy(SEM)and X-ray diffraction(XRD)to analyze the microstructure and phase composition of celadon body and glaze, initially reveals both similarities and differences in celadon phase microstructure and physical aspects;in addition, the study uses the colorimeter, thermal expansion and other instruments to measure samples’body, glaze, firing temperature and other physical properties;combined with the test results of their composition and structure, the study comprehensively discusses the inherent relationship between the formula of raw materials, microstructure and their appearance and performance, and the causes of both the similarities and differences of celadon samples. The research finds little difference and volatility in the chemical composition of the body of Yue celadon from Silongkou and Koryo celadon from Jinseo-ri and Yucheon-ri,since they both have a certain amount of quartz and feldspar and mullite crystals;however, there are some differences and considerable variation in the chemical composition of the glaze.Except that K2O in the glaze of Yue celadon from Silongkou is significantly lower than that of the latter, the silica to alumina ratio,CaO,MgO,Fe2O3 and TiO2,etc.are higher than the latter. The two samples both contain varying amounts of quartz and feldspar crystals of calcium, but the thickness of the glaze layer of Koryo celadon samples from Jinseo-ri and Yucheon-ri measures 200μm,thicker than the glaze layer of Yue celadon samples from Silongkou(3050μm).The firing temperature of Koryo celadon samples from Jinseo-ri and Yucheon-ri is higher than Yue celadon samples from Silongkou. The former’s reducing firing atmosphere is stronger than the latter, and the coloration of the former is greener. In addition,by comparative study of the physical properties of the celadon samples from our two countries, the study analyzes both their appearance and inherent characteristics, which can provide new and additional information and technical support for the comparative research on the celadon from China and South Korea. |
