The Causatives is one of the sentence that has been used to express the causedevents. It is widely used in ancient and modern Chinese. The study of the Causatives inmodern Chinese has some very important fruits, but the study of the Causatives in ancientChinese is a little weak. This thesis tries to do some detailed research on the evolvement ofthe Causatives, and on this basis, tries to do a comparative study between ancientCausatives and modern Causatives. This thesis mainly researches the Causatives from semantic types, syntactic forms, and pragmatics functions. From pragmatics functions, the Causatives can be divided intotwo types, the narrative Causatives and the descriptive Causatives. We describe this twotype Causatives from semantic types and syntactic forms one by one firstly. And then, do acomparative study between ancient Causatives and modern Causatives from semantic types, syntactic forms, and pragmatics functions,to show the difference between ancientCausatives and modern Causatives. This thesis comes to this conclusion: the Causatives developes from single tonumerous on semantic types, simple to complex on syntactic forms, narrative to describeon pragmatics functions;on semantic types and pragmatics functions, it’s almost similarexcept slight differences between ancient Causatives and modern Causatives, and onsyntactic forms, there are big differences.
