| Fuzziness is an inherent feature of language. Accordingly, as a component oflanguage, translation possesses the characteristic of being fuzzy. The fuzzyexpressionsor expressions can be easily found in all business communicationincluding business negotiation. In the process of negotiation, the use of fuzzyexpressionsdepends on the context of conversation and the speaker’s intention. Theappropriate use of fuzzy expressionshelps to narrow the gap and concludes the deal.Inappropriate use of fuzzy expressionsmay affect the result of the negotiation, or evenseriously damage the good will between two parties.The author makes an attempt to demonstrate the use of fuzzy expressionsand itspragmatic functions in business negotiation. In this thesis, it is easy to see how thefuzzy expressionsfunctions and its importance in business negotiations. Moreover, itintroduces some tactics in translating fuzzy expressionsand elaborates some pragmaticfunctions of fuzzy expressionsin business English.This essay begins with the definition and characteristics of vague language, inorder to inform the readers of its true meaning, and then it illustrates the definitionand characteristics of business English negotiations, which aims at furtherinvestigating the significance and necessity for research.
