| At present, with the frequent cultural communication among each nation, thecross-cultural researches on translation, especially on translated literature fromcultural dimensions will become a hot spot in the international academic circle in the21stcentury. At the moment, there have been several works and papers abouttranslated literature and the history of translated literature, with varied content andconcentrations. Among them, the researches about the style of historical books arerelatively limited. Therefore, on this basis, this paper demonstrates the basic facts ofChinese history of translated literature, especially the style of historical books byenumeration and explanation. The purpose is to provide some theoretical referencesfor the future compilation of historical books.Before researching the history of translated literature, we should make it clearthat translated literature is an important media in the Chinese-Western literaryrelationship. In fact, it has been a significant part of Chinese literature. This is thepositioning of translated literature, as well as the final admission of its position.Besides, the admission of translated literature should also be embodied incompiling relatively independent history of translated literature, which is a form ofliterary history. The compilation of the history of translated literature should firstlyestablish a correct recognition on translated literature as above: it is a special part ofnational literature. The thesis will analyze its basis from aspects of theology andphilosophy. In order to compile a profound history of translated literature, we need todeal with a series of problems, one of which is the style of the history of translatedliterature. The thesis briefly makes an analysis on the six different kinds of styles andtheir merits and drawbacks: annalistic style, biography, event-based style ofpresenting histories, national history, comprehensive history and dynastic history. Thethesis also analyzes the style of some main works of history of translated literature inChina. Connected with their merits and drawbacks, the thesis puts forward a relativelyreasonable and systematic style from angles of the essential characters of translatedliterature, the peculiarity of intended audience and the objectives of compiling the history of translated literature. In this suggested style, two parts are included. The firstpart can adopt the traditional method of annalistic style while the second part can becompiled according to different nations, regions, languages, schools, thoughts andrepresentative authors. In this way, the full overlook of the history of translatedliterature can be presented better. The thesis makes a case study on a literary work thatmakes an innovation and attempt in this aspect—Modern History of TranslatedLiterature in China (1898-1949) by Xie Tianzhen and Zha Mingjian.In addition to that, the compilation of the history of translated literature shouldalso stress the relationship between translated literature and translators’ individualfactors, as well as the influence of translated literature on local literature and culture.In the constant compilation of the history of translated literature, all of these factorsare the ones that are very important, but are easily neglected. Thus the thesis willdemonstrate them. |
