| V-gei Construction is a subtype of ditransitive construction in modern Chinese, with "X CAUSES Y to RECEIVE Z" being the construction meaning and"NP1+V-gei+NP2+NP3" being the syntactic representation. The previous studies areall devoted to the description and explanation of the syntactic, semantic andpragmatic features of ditransitive construction from different perspectives. However,as a subtype of ditransitive construction, there are no papers concerning V-geiConstruction systematically from the perspective of Cognitive Linguistics andConstruction Grammar, let alone any theoretical framework and accurate dataanalysis and discussion. In order to bridge the gap of the previous studies on this construction, this thesistries to establish an MIM Model, which is an integration of Multiple Inheritance (MI)in Construction Grammar and Metaphor in Cognitive Linguistics, by which theunderlying cognitive mechanism of V-gei Construction is analyzed from syntactic, semantic and pragmatic features respectively. There are five chapters in this thesis, and the main ideas are as follows:Chapter One introduces the motivation, purpose, research scope, methodologyand data collection as well as layout.Chapter Two mainly reviews the previous relative studies on the constructionfrom different perspectives by the scholars at home, and pages go to the presentationof the related theories of Construction Grammar, thus finding the gap left by theprevious researches.Chapter Three, based on the limitations of the previous studies, this thesis triesto establish an MIM Model, which is an integration of Multiple Inheritance (MI) andMetaphor, by which the underlying cognitive mechanism of V-gei Construction isanalyzed from syntactic, semantic and pragmatic features respectively.Chapter Four concentrates on data analysis and discussion. Based on MIM Model, this thesis establishes a closed corpus with1218examples exhaustivelycollected from the Corpus of National Language Committee of China (CNLCC) toillustrate the construction from syntactic, semantic and pragmatic featuresrespectively, and the verbs (116) which can enter into the construction are dividedinto6types, based on the6sorts of syntactic relations, coupled with relative ratiosand statistics.Chapter Five deals with the conclusion drawn from this research, includingmajor contributions of the study on one hand, and the limitations as well assuggestions for the future research on the other. The major contributions of the thesis are as follows:First, based on the Multiple Inheritance in Construction Grammar andMetaphor in Cognitive Linguistics, MIM Model is proposed to expound theunderlying cognitive mechanism of V-gei Construction in modern Chinese for thefirst time.Second, this paper, for the first time, puts forward the concept of Chinese V-geiConstruction based on MIM Model, and suggests that MI and metaphor be twokinds of productive mechanisms of constructions. We find out that every concreteV-gei Construction definitely inherits necessary information from its upperconstructions, while each concrete V-gei Construction does not necessarily bearmetaphorical character.Third, for the first time, the116verbs that can enter into V-gei Construction, are divided into6types mainly according to syntactic and semantic features, basedon the6sorts of syntactic relations, coupled with relative ratios and statistics. Theyare shown in the following tables:... |
