Many woman painters have their name written in the history. The unique feminist consciousness foundin their paintings magnificently enriched the art history and engraved in the development of civilization.Influenced by economy, politics, legislations, religions, ethics, marriage, family and other socioculturalelements, men and women differs in social roles and in the context of masculine society, two domains ofmasculinity and femininity emerged and influence the society and culture from generation to go. Hence, itis suffice to assert that each progress woman paintings made in different phases is under pressure from menand society. With the development of society, feminist consciousness awakes and women painters’ uniqueexperience and understanding of life shined because of the improvement of their painting skills. Some ofthem were liberated by access to higher education and therefore no longer be denied out a confined area,like many women in ancient times. Their works and efforts have the development of society engraved andexhibit the awaking process of feminist consciousness. In recent years, an increasing number of womenenter into painting careers and they are becoming more open-minded as society grows. The feministsubjectivity grows more thoroughly with the growth of our time and of society shifts. Compared to otherman painting, woman painting strikes us as particularly charming with the representation of spirits ofindependence within masculine society through unique life experience and sentiment expression.The paper is structured in four chapters in an effort to illustrate features and meaningfulness of womanpaintings. Chapter one introduces the concept of feminist consciousness and the awaking process in thecontext of Chinese and western historical progress. Chapter two discusses woman social status withindifferent eras of China and western countries and the women painting development phases under theinfluence of historical circumstances. Chapter three expound different working states, painting styles andthe features of socio-historical eras revealed from the paintings in different social backgrounds, under theauspice of awaken feminist consciousness found in women paintings. Chapter four illustrate the specialcharm and strong representation found in women paintings due to the influence of feminist consciousnessand women unique life experience by analyzing several women painters and their works.
