| The publication of Desert Offering in2000introduced the Xue Mo---the writer of Gan Su province---to literary world of China and became the focus of literary critics. Together with Desert Offering, the continuous creations Hunting in Prairie and White Tiger Guan is collectively referred as Xue Mo’s Desert Trilogy. In this paper, taking the three works mentioned in the text as the key analytical object, together with his other over30short stories and another two latest editions Wolves of Western Xia and Curse of Western Xia as primary analysis texts, I do a comprehensive analysis to Xue Mo’s creations on the basis of former studies. This thesis is divided into three parts:introduction, body and conclusion. In introduction, a brief overview of Xue Mo’s life and his creations are made. Body part includes three chapters. The main contents are as follows:Chapter1, by using text analysis, the whole creative art style is discussed in chapter1. For taking the rural area of Tengger Desert’s edge in Liangzhou for writing background, his works have a strong regional flavor. His artistic characteristics are analyzed from three aspects: environment, people and language, filling the western flavor in his works.Chapter2, the chapter discusses the realism method and aesthetic content of Xue Mo’s novel creation. He never avoids the poor living situation of northwestern farmers, but through the realism creative approach show this to the readers in full."True" is the aesthetic basis of his novel, but because of his deep love and attachment to his home, his narration uses a slightly sad poetic style unconsciously, which makes his works full of deep sympathy and compassion.Chapter3, this chapter discusses two issues. First, according to the specific analysis of the first two chapters of the text, this chapter makes a conclusion to the developments and changes of Xue Mo’s writing road. Second, it describes the practical meaning of his novel. We mainly focus on the thinking of the social problems that his works bring to us and the cultural meaning of his works.The third part is the epilogue, a concluding overview of the main point of the entire paper and point out the shortcomings of his novel creation. |
