Based on the corpus, this research collects and analyzes pragmatic strategiesemployed in the fundamental stage English majors’oral English. This thesis bases theresearch on the corpus to find what pragmatic strategies fundamental stage Englishmajors employ in their oral English, and how the pragmatic strategies the fundamentalstage English majors employ in their oral English are different in frequency, and whyfundamental stage English majors employ these pragmatic strategies in their oralEnglish.This thesis uses the spoken English corpus of Chinese learners mainly compiledby Nanjing University, and the oral materials of this corpus are from the recordingmaterials of the spoken English test of the national test for English Majors-4 from1996 to 2002. This research selects the tape recordings from 2000 to 2002 to beobjectives and these tape recordings total up to 687 boxes. These oral materialsoriginate from the random samples which are extensive and representative. Thisresearch is real and reliable.By means of Wordsmith software and the artificial identification, this thesisfinds pragmatic strategies employed in English majors’oral English and analyzes thehigh-frequency pragmatic strategies, and it finds some reasons for these pragmaticstrategies. These findings are beneficial to teaching and learning.
