Translation, as a kind of manner of cultural communication between countries, involves not only language but also culture. Poetry, as the highest form of literature, isregarded as the most difficult text to be translated duo to its unique characteristic oflanguage and cultural connotation. Especially in recent years, poetry translation hasbeen shifted from translation strategies to the function of cultural transmission. With the advent of globalization, cultural transmission has been emphasized inliterature translation. However, when it comes to cultural translation, it always refersto two different cultures, each of which has its own culture background in translation, resulting in difficulties within process of literature translation, especially in poetrytranslation. In order to realize the effect of cultural transmission to the greatest extent, many translation strategies have been put forward. At the end of 1970s, western hermeneutics was introduced to China, whichcontributes a lot to literature translation, especially to poetry translation for it canprovide us with a new perspective for poetry translation, so as to lead it out of theargument on the problem of translatability and untranslatability in process of poetrytranslation. In this thesis, the author makes effort to combine the hermeneutics theoryand translation studies to analyze the factors of influencing poetry translation, andthen combine Gadamer’s view of“Fusion of Horizon”and practice of poetrytranslation to describe the phenomenon that translator always interprets the originalwith his own horizon consciously or unconsciously, so as to demonstrate the influence of poetry translation on transmission of culture and analyzes how the theory of Fusionof Horizon proves the fusion of cultures so as to realize cultural transmission.
