The translation activity is not only a language activity, but also a thinking activity,a logical thinking activity; the translated work is a product of the logical thinkingactivity. If we hope that the translation can fulfill the accurate, clear and coherentrequirements, and can iconically reproduce the source language, logicality is a crucialfactor. As one form of translation, interpretation is a vivid and powerful representationof this logical activity, and has a high demand to the interpreter’s logical thinkingability. From the perspective of interpreters, interpretation is a kind of high-strungbrain work, and its prominent characteristics could be concluded as extemporaneousand instantaneous, high pressure, high demand and high insight; these require theinterpreter should have a strong adaptability which to a great extent depends on theapplication of the interpreter’s logical thinking.Logic is a problem we should catch great importance to in the studies andteaching of interpretation. Making a general survey of translation study, researches onthe logical thinking and translation are mainly focused on the written translation field, while such study, on logic in the interpretation, can be counted on fingers. Like theexisting study on logical thinking and interpretation, most of them put eyes on thecomprehending process. Interpretation is a process, and besides comprehension, italso contains memorization and expression. In each phase of the interpreting process, the interpreter may meet some difficulties or barriers; usually language itself isobjective and rather static, while the application of such subjective dynamic thinkingas logical thinking plays a vital role. Logical thinking is to interpretation whatphilosophy is to life, although we could see them, they are like an invisible hand thathas been impacting our actions. This thesis develops the study from the perspective of logical thinkingapplication and interpreting process, which in a way embodies the trans-disciplinaryfeature of interpretation researches, not only covering linguistics but also referring tothe psycholinguistics, psychology, and cognitive sciences, and so on. This thesis, combining with the multidisciplinary theories, from three aspects of the interpretingprocess---comprehension, memorization, and expression, based on the barriers anddifficulties that interpreters meet in each phase of the interpretation process, providesan overall analysis on the role of logical thinking in each stage, and discusses the relevant strategies of logical thinking application through making a combination oftheories and examples. This study aims at ensuring the status of logical thinking, theabstract factor, in the interpreting process, and hopes to bring an instructive help tothe practice of interpreters.
