| Re-creation has gained much attention in translation field for quite a longtime.Qian Zhongshu figures out something will be inevitably lost during theprocess of translating,while something new will be unexpectedly recreated.Meanwhile,Guo Moruo,LinYutang and Xu Yuanchong have also advocatedre-creation after their years of translation experience and inspecting otherfamous translators’activity.By reviewing and analyzing several typical theories insisting translator’srecreation,this thesis finds that these theories don’t put faithfulness andrecreation in opposite places.But a translator’s recreation in translation isunavoidable with faithfulness as its premise.It is infeasible to exert“excessâ€or“defectâ€in recreation but confined by some“degreeâ€.Translation is notmechanical language transference but a creative thinking activity involving acomplex human brain process by the language signs.The nature of translationhas determined the inevitability of translator’s re-creation during the processof translation.As an important part in translation,literary translation is acomplex creative activity,while recreation as the essence,decides the qualityof translation.The reproduction and generation of literary translated text can’texist without the exerting of recreation.The premise of re-creation isfaithfulness so as to make it different from rewriting,creative treason andliterary creation.During the cultural turn in the1980s,many scholars focused ontranslator’s re-creation from the perspective of culture instead of sometheories concerning“faithfulnessâ€â€œexpressivenessâ€â€œeleganceâ€as well as onthe cultural transmission but the words-to-words transferring between theoriginal text and the translated one.They are more concerned about theacceptance of the translated text in the target language country,while the issue about whether the translated text is good or not became less important.ZhuHong’s Chinese-English translated works are pretty good ones which canbring much influence to China’s local cultural transmission.Zhu Hong exerts recreation in her three translated works Unlike a Dream,Gathering Wheat and the Balance of Fear.These three works can reflect oldChina’s social realities--patriarchal life style,yearning for being cared andsocial turbulence which are different that of recent China that are full of love,equality and social stability.Her translated works contribute to reflecting thesituation of China’s reform and opening-up.It can also draw the world tofocus on our China’s past,present and future from the angle of femaleliterature.Following these thought:this thesis is divided as follows:Overly speaking,it includes three parts,apart from the introduction andconclusion.The introduction covers the framework,significance and researchmethodology as well as the originality of the present thesis.Chapter1includes previous research on recreation and Zhu Hong fromdifferent angles.Chapter2explores the inevitability of re-creation intranslation and also indicates that recreation should be confined to some“degreeâ€.What’s more,the comparison between recreation and its relatedterms are also covered.Chapter3is a tentative study of recreation in ZhuHong’s three translated works:Unlike a Dream,Gathering Wheat and theBalance of Fear from the perspective of content and language form.The lastpart of this thesis concludes the results of this research.It figures out that ZhuHong adopts the re-creative strategies during the process of translation todemonstrate her female translator’s identity.Meanwhile,she introduces ourfemale literature to the foreign readers as a cultural disseminator,driving thereaders to have a better understanding about China from female literature. |
