Recognition Potential refers to about 200-250ms peak EEG response when try to see the image that can be identified, such as words or pictures. In the case of predecessors research event-related potentials.such as P300 and N400, and in-depth to reveal the cognitive significance of these potentials reflect, for the first time, by the Rudell professor from Brooklyn Medical Center in New York State University of USA, it is described. Then Professor Rudell and other foreign scholars as well as domestic Professor Chen Xingshi, Professor Zhang Qinglin and so on who interested to the potential more in-depth study the potential and proposed a more systematic view of the potential.Among them, the view of categorical feature early processing is a recently proposed new view of on the recognition potential function. the view pointed out that:RP may reflect the automatic sorting mechanism of the early class of visual stimuli, this sorting mechanism is achieved by virtue of the processing of category features.Categorical features mentioned here can be either visual categorical features or semantics categorical features. visual categorical features processing and semantic categorical features, who is auxiliary, who is the stronger, depending on the experimental task, the brain has a high degree of flexibility. The point is raised based on the integration of the previous two theories of the potential function (RP reflects the visual perception analysis、RP sensitive to semantic or conceptual processing. It is inheritance and development of two earlier theories. However, this new approach still needs more experiments to verify, as the categorical feature early processing view, whether RP is related to both visual stimulation category features processing and top-down semantic category processing (mainly experimental task the impact). The purpose of this study treat human face parts (eyes and mouth)pictures, human body parts (shoulders and hands)pictures, human face picture and human body picture as the stimulus material to study and explore the categories characteristics of the early processing and preliminary study on the integration of category information. In this study, we treat pictures of the human face parts (eyes and mouth) and human body parts (shoulders and hands) as stimuli to test the categories feature early processing theory, then still use human face pictures of parts (eyes and mouth) and human body parts (shoulders and hands) as stimuli to verify the semantic categorical features of early processing, but the task the two experiments are different.Experiment 1 has one experimental task, the task is the detection of color pictures which not involve the semantics.Experiment 2, the task is sex determination related to the semantics, through a variety of experimental tasks to test the view of RP category features early processing. The experiment1 results showed no significant difference between the average RP amplitude induced by face parts and body parts, but there is a change in RP latency. The experiment1 results show that RP is sensitive to categories features of visual stimuli. Experiment 2 results showed that both the RP average amplitude and latency induced by the face parts and body parts are differences, but the RP average amplitude induced by the two experimental tasks are not different, but the latency were significantly different. Experiment 2 results suggest that the effect of the task in RP latency may be subject to a different task. RP is related to top-down processing of semantic categories (mainly the impact of the experimental task).
