At the current age, news plays a more and more vital role in the information transference to the outside world and studying. Large numbers of maritime English learners and shipping related workers are aware of the latest motivation and knowledge. Nevertheless, when reading these news stories, readers may feel that those words are different for reasons they cannot tell. In order to explore the differences, discussion is presented in three steps.1) Data collocation and classification.2) Contrast and analysis of the data.3) Findings and conclusions. The present study constructs a Shipping News Corpus which is composed of news of four leading official websites---A. B. S (American Bureau of Shipping), L. R.(Lloyds Register of Shipping), C. C. S.(China Classification Society) and D. N. V.(Det Norske Veritas). And then, the thesis mainly introduces how to distinguish several specific synonyms of shipping-related synonymic terminologies in terms of colligation, collocation, semantics and semantic prosody. The lexis is maritime, marine, nautical, shipping; rule, regulation, law; captain, master; crew and seafarer, which owns high occurrences. Perl is employed to make a clean text and extract the concordance lines. AntConc is applied to the keywords concordance. It can be concluded that based on the analysis and study, all significant colligations of target words are Adj.+N and N+N; collocates of every pair of synonyms have significant variation and owns the same collocates which can mutually collocate; through referring to several authoritative dictionaries, despite of compensation and award, the semantic meanings of other sets overlap a lot, difficult to distinguishing. However, it can be found out that many words occupy comparative stable Chinese translation through analyzing the concordance lines of individual word. In most cases negative and neutral stands nearly half and half in all cases of master.
