As one of the important types of Hong Kong film in the 1950s and1960s, Shaw Opera film advent their first work《Diaochan》in 1958; andits creation has up to an unprecedented level in early 1960s, in 1970sit was replaced by another film type completely, through more thantwenty years of ups and downs, although its experience time was notlong, these works has cut a figure at the time of the importantinternational film festivals ,even in the western world, it wasconsidered as the representative of Chinese movies.Shaw Opera film as a special type of film; there are both manycharacteristics of Genre Film and its own unique artistic features. Itis a unique artistic style which under the influence of double art;nevertheless, the same Genre Film, it was created under the specificenvironment of Hong Kong culture, so there are its own artisticcharacteristics which was totally different from Opera film ofmainland. Formed under the marketization environment, it does hasmany commercial and modernization approaches, trying to go theway of modern character of Opera film, made a beneficial experimentfor the transition of our traditional art in the modern society .This thesis just makes an exploration on its origin, development, type and artistic features, existent questions and analyses its maindirectors and works, it also takes account of its globality and typical,trying to make a comprehensive analysis to initiate our thinking.Although it was exist only a short span of 10 years and no longer thetraditional sense of Opera film, it shows every sign of the artists whogive new consideration to traditional art.
