Since 1999, China has developed the higher vocational technology education.The Department of Higher Education in Ministry of Education especially makes BasicRequirements of Vocational College English Teaching, and clearly states that the aimof vocational college English teaching is to cultivate the students’practical ability ofusing language. It highlights practicability and pertinence of teaching content.However, at present, students are still passive listeners in class and have fewopportunities to interact with the teacher and other students.With the guidance of constructivism theory, second language acquisition theoryand social interaction theory, the thesis strives to apply interactive teaching approachto English listening and speaking class for non-English majors in vocational college inorder to find some advantages and the existing problems of interactive teachingapproach in teaching practice. Through the analysis of the causes, it explores a kind ofmore suitable interactive teaching approach to English listening and speaking class fornon-English majors in vocational college, for the purpose of changing the currentsituation where students don’t want to learn English, stimulating students’initiativeto learn English with the mutual aid and cooperation and motivating the students’enthusiasm for learning English, so as to improve their English listening and speakingability, and offer some advices for future teaching in English listening and speakingclass for the vocational colleges.The thesis emphasizes that one-way interaction is changed into multipleinteraction between teacher and students. Students can learn from each other to makeup the deficiencies and grow together through competition and cooperation, whichcan finally form comprehensive harmonious effective interaction, and give full play tothe function of the collective learning, and promote mutual development betweenteachers and students.This research attempts to apply interactive teaching approach to English listening and speaking class for non-English majors in vocational college in accordance withthe theories related to interactive teaching. The author chooses two parallel classes asthe experimental class and the control class to make a research for one semester byadopting experimental method, questionnaire, interview and observation. First, theauthor chooses 200 students to carry on the questionnaire; its purpose is to understandthe current classroom situation in vocational college, the students’characteristics invocational college and characteristics of English listening and speaking class fornon-English majors in vocational college. Then the author gives the pretests to theexperimental class and the control class, and carries on the posttests at the end of theexperiment, interview and classroom observation in the process of the experiment.Finally a conclusion is drawn through the analysis of obtained data with SPSS16.0.The author analyzes the data collected from the experiment in details. The resultsof the oral tests and the speaking tests implied that the post-test score of theexperimental class was superior to that of the control class and the difference issignificant. Moreover, the results of interview and class observation indicate theeffects of interactive teaching approach, which cultivates students’interest in Englishstudy and their mutual interaction as well as their cooperation quality. More studentsin the experimental class are interested in multiple interactions between teacher andstudents and between students and students, and perform more actively in completingthe listening and speaking tasks assigned by the teacher. Therefore, based on theanalysis of the results of experiment, questionnaire, interview and class observation,interactive teaching approach turns out to be acceptable and effective, which providesreference for the future teaching of English listening and speaking class in vocationalcollege.
