Listening is one of the four basic skills in English learning.It is the basis and premise for English learning and communication.However,studies have shown that the English foundation of vocational college students is weak,and there are also some problems such as the single teaching mode in listening classes,which lead to the loss of students’ learning motivation and interest as well as great difficulty in improving listening achievement.In order to explore the effective teaching mode of English listening in vocational colleges and cultivate students’ learning confidence,this paper constructs the Interactive Teaching Approach based on the theory of interaction and combining the theories of input,output hypothesis and constructivism.The Interactive Teaching Approach advocates a student-centered classroom.By creating an interactive teaching environment through flexible and diversified interactive activities such as question and answering,role-playing,group discussion,team cooperation etc.it aims to maximally stimulate students’ thirst for knowledge,arouse their enthusiasm and initiative in the process of equal exchanges and interactions,so as to achieve the effect of improving students’ listening level.This paper combines qualitative and quantitative research methods to answer the following three research questions,aiming to explore the effectiveness of interactive teaching approach to English listening in vocational colleges.(1)What effects does the Interactive Teaching Approach have on students’ listening learning interest?(2)What effects does the Interactive Teaching Approach have on students’ listening learning confidence?(3)What effects does the Interactive Teaching Approach have on students’ listening learning achievement?In this study,106 freshmen from class 19301 and class 19302,English education major of Xiang Zhong Normal College For Preschool Education are selected as the experimental subjects.Among them,class 19301 is the control class,which adopts the traditional teaching mode of playing the recording-checking answers-explaining language points,and class 19302 is the experimental class,which applies the Interactive Teaching Approach.Through flexible and diversified interactive activities,it aims to arouse students’ learning enthusiasm and initiative,activate relevant background knowledge,strengthen listening skills and consolidate the learning effect.The teaching experiment lasts for five weeks.The collection tools for experimental data include questionnaire survey,listening test,classroom observation and interview.The SPSS 20 software is used to analyze the experimental data,and the result shows that:(1)the Interactive Teaching Approach is conducive to stimulate students’ learning interest,especially for students’ participation and learning effort.(2)the Interactive Teaching Approach contributes to enhancing students’ learning confidence.Students are more brave to show themselves in a relaxing and harmonious classroom environment.(3)Compared with the traditional teaching method,the Interactive Teaching Approach is helpful to improve students’ listening learning achievement.The average score of the experimental class in the post-test is 2.94 points higher than that of the pre-test,and 3.38 points higher than that of the control class and the gap between the students has also been narrowed.Although students’ listening learning has made progress in the traditional teaching mode,the Interactive Teaching Approach has a more obvious effect on students’ listening learning achievement.Through the teaching experiment,this study believes that the Interactive Teaching Approach has a significant effect on the improvement of students’ listening ability.The results of this study not only provide effective teaching advice for listening teaching,better stimulate students’ interest in listening learning,but also provide useful reference for higher vocational English teaching and research.
