With the development of China, a mountain of students from America and Europe keep coming to China to learn Chinese so as to further their career or business. And phonetics learning is the most significant part for Chinese learning.This thesis firstly clarifies the background and the research situation of Chinese international phonetic education home and abroad. The writer found that there was few study about Chinese language phonetic education exclusively for America or Europe students. Based on situational teaching approach, the thesis discusses the operation of situational teaching approach in teaching phonetics. With the combination of teaching cases and the specialized questionnaire, the thesis also focuses on analyzing the practice, effects and problems that would occur in teaching short-term European and American students Chinese phonetics with the employment of situational teaching approach. Finally, it evaluates the employment of situational teaching approach in Chinese phonetics teaching, points out some shortcomings, and clarifies the next purpose of study.In addition, based on the exploring and researching to the situational teaching approach as well as the features and the current statement of the Chinese phonetics teaching to foreigners, this thesis introduces the approach to TCFL (Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language), especially the phonetic part. The author proposes an assertion that teachers is supposed to instruct role play games in teaching practice, so as to inspire students to speak and learn, be positive and be accurate. The author also, from my own teaching experience, provides some teaching strategies that can be taken as references for other teaches of TCFL. According to my practical teaching experience, the situational teaching approach does work for short-term Chinese language students form America.
