Ceramic pillow is the main summer bedding in ancient China, about from the earlyand medium-term of7th and8th centuries of Tang Dynasty, which experienced the Tang,Five Dynasties, Liao, Song, Jin, Yuan, Ming and Qing generations, continuous firing aslong as1000years and the porcelain pillow had characteristics of the times and diversemoldings in various historical periods of firing. There were many excellent ceramicpillows in our ancient Chinese because at the beginning of firing, the craftsmen had paidgreat price on the unique artistic expression and made them not only one kind ofdaily-use devices but also be provided of high value in viewing, furnishings and aesthetic.In various times of the process of social development, different porcelain pillowsrepresent different groups cultural psychology, values, aesthetic tastes, traditional beliefs,ethics, customs, and the ritual system reflected by the pillows, class, identity and othercontent, having universal, regional, ethnic, historic, and dissemination of cultural identity,containing rich cultural connotations, and could be called a unique cultural heritage in theworld.If the practicality is the porcelain pillow’s basal properties, that it’s artistic is thespiritual performance. Pillow can bring users changing thoughts and feelings when to beused. The artistry of the porcelain pillow is, according with its regularity, the ancientcraftsmen design their own artistic ideas, concepts and mental state to impact and carethe users’ feeling, spirit, and psychology through the porcelain pillow and thus make thepsychological reactions. Such as the shaped pillow of tiger, lion and dragon, which hasthe role of warding off the evil and exorcism; the Edict ghost charms pillow using asfunerary objects in the culture of the ancient burial; the police pillow using for ancients’self-cultivation and refining their will; the "tolerance" pillow with inspirational role; the"Do unto others, do not impose on others" quotations pillow for practicing morality andthe "moral purity" text pillow; the poems and songs pillow for finding sustenance in lifefeelings; the boy and geese pattern pillow applying to marriage and with beautifulsymbolism; the magpie pattern pillow praying for the coming of happy events; thedeer-pattern pillow blessing of good health and longevity; the mandarin duck patternpillow wishing happy marriage; the fish pattern pillow praying for affluent life; the"Home States Wing " character pillow expecting national security; the peony patternpillow symbolizing wealth; the chrysanthemum pattern pillow hinting aloof and noblecharacter of gentleman; the plum pattern pillow hinting perseverance and elegant; thelotus pattern pillow hinting elegant holy; the bamboo pattern pillow hinting straight section and open mind; the folk fable, historical myths, drama and folk life pillows forspreading literature and art and so on.
