“The love for man-ghost”, an important theme, appears repeatedly in Chineseancient literature. For example, Qu Yuan’s Jiuge and Lisao, Song Yu’s Gaotang Fuand Shennv Fu, and Cao Zhi’s Luoshen Fu are these famous Poem and Fu in the pastdynasties. From the rises of novels in Wei Jin and Southern and Northern Dynasties tothe Qing Dynasty, the works about “the love for man-ghost” such as the supernaturaltales in the Six Dynasties, the Tang legends and the Strange tales from a LonelyStudio, are gaining brilliance in literature.This paper studies the theme for “the love for man-ghost” in the period of HanDynasty. In order to realize the perspectives of the artistic achievement and thecultural implication on this theme for “the love for man-ghost” in Han Dynasty, wecollect and summarize the basic materials of this theme, and give a comprehensivelyanalysis of this theme with combining the culture context in Han Dynasty. This paperincludes three parts. In Chapter1, the basic forms of “the love for man-ghost” in HanDynasty are divided into three kinds: the induced form of imperial myth, thetraditional form of God-mankind love and the immortal form of man-ghost love.Moreover, characteristics of the three forms are analyzed in detail. In Chapter2,combining with the culture context in Han Dynasty, we analyze three aspects of thecultural implication hidden in “the love for man-ghost” in Han Dynasty, including thepolitical purpose of relying on, the goddess complex of Chinese literati and thepermeation of Taoist thought. Chapter3discusses the significance and value of thelove theme for man-ghost in the history of literature. It includes two sections to showthe special transitional character and the historical influence of this theme in HanDynasty. Section1summarizes the love themes for man-ghost in the Pre-Qin Dynastyand Han Dynasty, mainly refers to the Pre-Qin Dynasty and the Wei Jin and Southernand Northern Dynasties. Section2discusses the love theme for man-ghost in HanDynasty which served as a link between past and future. Firstly, from the views of theextrinsic representation of the themes, we discuss:1. the preservation and inheritanceof the myth story of the themes;2. the types of the themes are carried gradually toperfection;3. the carriers of the themes are gradually enriching. Secondly, from theviews of the internal essence of the themes, we discuss:1. the stories of the themesare tending towards to secularization and humanization;2. the life consciousnessbehind the themes are gradually awaking.
