Hui Hong,one of the most famous poem-monk in the Northern Song Dynasty, made many highachievements in terms of poetry creation, Zen theory, the monks’ History Compilation, and he was knownas the ‘highest monk of Song’. This thesis briefly research Hui Hong’s names and life experiences, focuseon the analysis of the content of his poetry, poetic theory, creative style, then analyze his poetry creation,affirm his position and influence on literature history.The main text discussed from three aspects:Firstly, this thesis do textual research Hui Hong’s life experiences based on available information, andbased on previous studies, Hui Hong’s life is divided into three stages,‘lost his parents when young,conversion to Buddhism’,‘Buddhist consciousness and associations, long suffering’,‘vow to write, carryforward the Buddhism’, in order to look at the ups and downs of his life, ideological and psychologicalchanges as well as related historical background.Secondly.,According to The character on stone gate, classifide the subject of Hui Hong’s poems. HuiHong’s poems has a lot of consultation of Zen, including five areas: resigned the Buddha’s words and Zenphrases into his poems, combined with her own life experiences to describe Zen, reflect Zen by naturalscenery, express Zen by the description of spring, show Zen by love between men and women. Hui Honghas many secular emotional writing, the concrete manifestation are his poems of the success and failure ofpast and present history, the poems concerned about people’s sufferings, the poems of his own feelings, thepoems of art evaluation, the poems of poetic criticism. The poems of intercourse and responses is also animportant part of the creation of Hui Hong, this kind of poems has a large number, involving a wide rangeof people, this thesis focuses on his poems intercourse with Su Shi and Huang Ting-jian. Finally, Hui Hong’s poetic theory performance in his advocacy of “playful words”, He opened thebarriers of Zen and Literature, and quoted from the method of Huang Ting-jian “transformation betweenthe words and the meaning”. He often used the concept of “wonderful and fantasy ideas” or “fantasy ideas”to comment on the literary creation. He advocated using dialects proverb in poem. Hui Hong’s poems stylehas three aspects, first is “clear tranquility, words plain but meaningful”, second is “the escape rushindulgence, spacious, broad-minded detached”, third is “exquisite composition, pay attention to exercising,use the words strange but not stiff”. Hui Hong’s poems has a groundbreaking contribution to both ofsubject matter and artistic style, he has an important proposition in poetic theory, and he reached a quitehigh level of literature. He created the new situation of the monks literature, but also established hisimportant position in the history of Chinese literature.
