In the Tang and Song Dynasties, Chinese political, economic, cultural, artistic and other aspects haveobtained a great development. Music in the Tang and Song Dynasties also experienced a greattransformation from the aristocracy to the civilian, from the palace to the folk. The female musician is thatthe woman engage in the music activities and the music activities that the woman`s participate in ofChinese ancient societies. The female musician is the important part of the music of the Tang and SongDynasties. In this transformation process, the female musician has experienced tremendous changes fromthe palace’s female musician-based of the Tang Dynasty to the folk female musician-based of the SongDynasty. In order to have a clear understanding of the development and change of the female musician ofthe Tang and Song Dynasties, the author conducted a comprehensively comparative study of thedevelopment of the female musician of the Tang and Song Dynasties. This article is divided into threechapters in addition to the introduction and conclusion. Respectively from three aspects, it conduct acomparative study of the female musician of the Tang and Song Dynasties.In the first chapter, through the performance places, the form of a performance, record of the femalemusician, the female musician that the emperor give to the officials, the female musician managementagency and so on. After comparison of the palace’s female musician of the Tang and Song Dynasties, and tobee seen: Court female musician of Song Dynasty is relatively prosperous. But compared with the TangDynasty, some aspects are change it. Through the use of the official female musician of the Tang and SongDynasties and official female musician’s position, after comparing the above two can be seen, the change isnot big. In the second chapter, the performance places, the form of performance, the musical instrumentsthat female musician used and the female musician management, compared to the folk female music of theTang and Song Dynasties can be seen: the performance places of the Song Dynasty’s folk femalemusician quickly expand, the form of performances are more and more diversified, thereby contributing tothe development of the folk female musician of the Song Dynasty. In the third chapter, through the femalemusician by the officials and the literati private keeped, the female musician that officials were paid tributeto the emperor, the relationship between the scholars’s poetry and the female musician, after the comparison of above aspects of the female musician of the Tang and Song Dynasties and comes to the conclusion:because the service object of the female musician is relatively stable, so the female musician that officialsand scholars keeped of the Tang and Song Dynasties are change a little.
