| What I have translated is one unfinished detective story named The Mystery of EdwinDrood——written by Charles Dickens. There are23chapters in this story, which aretranslated by our team including9translators collaboratively. This novel is a story of suspenseful mystery, and it was evaluated as "a grotesque, indirect and modern fairy tale connected with drugs, shadowing and evil". This story mainlyrepresents that a pedantic choirmaster was totally obsessed with a young girl and exerted allhis energies to pursue her, but murdered his nephew at the end.The report is divided into six parts: introduction, task description, process description, main ideas of Relevance theory and its application in translation, case analysis, summary&conclusion.Introduction is a brief of the translation experiences and the report structure. This novelis provided by the Bilingual Project of Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press(FLTRP), who has set some requirements on the translation, of which we must follow close tothe line. So, a brief about FLTRP and the features of the detective story will be shown in taskdescription. Process description is about the description of preparation for translation, translating and post-translation, and the solutions of other tough problems. Main ideas ofRelevance theory and its application in translation will be introduced in the fourth chapter. Inaddition, case analysis analyzes the translation strategy and key points with particularexamples in order to obtain the optimal relevance. In Summary&conclusion, the translatorexpresses her true understanding and new thoughts from this task. |
