Kyo-machiya is a kind of Court House, in this respect it is in common with the in-four cases in Beijing. The exsiting Kyo-machi is said that it was built from the late Edo period to Meiji period roughly, and began from the time they have been moved to Heian-kyo capital that is much more than a thousand years of history. In the late Heian to Emaki "annual events", the "child shop" which is the archetype of Machiya has been drawed. Saved the traditional lifestyle Kyo-machiya have been inherited through the years. Various cultures, such as aesthetic wisdom of ordinary people, of living there is aggregated, which is functioning as a place to live today."Conbining by the peoples’economic and technology power, has been refined to the ultimate" rather than just living space of the common people, as a stage, there is expanded various of cultural activities, the history of the people of Kyoto Kyo-machiya, would not have an exaggeration to say that there are condensed into the culture. I think that to explore the history of the Kyo-machiya, is able to clarify the nature and the reality of people living in Kyoto.Based on the awareness of the issues described above, in this paper through the transformation of the Kyo-machiya, depicts aspects of the life of the common man, I hope to make its cultural characteristics clear to everyone. The rest of this paper is as follows.In the first chapter, to understand the popular culture of Kyoto from the standpoint of the macro. Four stages of development of culture of Kyoto, first of all to organize aristocratic culture, samurai culture, urban culture, townspeople about the culture. To clarify the transition of ordinary people’s social position, the center of the culture goes into the hands of the people gradually moved from St. peace again until the Meiji Restoration. In the end, compared with the culture of Edo townspeople between the townspeople of Kyoto culture, summarizes the characteristics of each look.The second chapter, to clarify the aristocrats and commoners way of life in each era, to clarify the relationship between popular culture aspects of the exchange of aristocrats and commoners, aristocrats and culture, along with the development of the era, aristocrats and commoners exchanges become increasingly frequent, the fusion of culture and popular culture aristocrats, people seek the nature of the culture of Kyoto.In the third chapter, compare the economic strength and political position of samurai and townspeople in the Edo period, respectively. To analyze that origin of this imbalance, and the birth of conscious defiance of the townspeople, which become the driving force behind the rise of merchant culture.In Chapter4, from St. Kyo-machi peace until the Edo period, we consider four stages of the transformation of the Kyo-machiya from birth,growth, flowering, and maturation. As a stage of the common people,"Sankyo in the market","Gion Festival","tea ceremony of Shimogyo","Tea House", which is a cultural space of the urban populace Kyo-machiya, is driving more and more social attention.
