Study On David Lampton’s Study Of Sino-U.S. Relations

David Lampton is a famous Sinology studies expert in America.His study onSino-U.S. relations not only reflects a trend of contemporary American academicresearch on Sino-US relations,but also the way we understanding America.Inaddition,through the researching of American scholar’s study of Sino-U.S. relations,itnot only helps us to understand the United States’s view of China,but also helps tobroaden our field of vision,better awareness and understanding of ourselves.The research of David Lampton’s academic course also reflects a microcosm ofthe changes of United States policy towards China and the development of Sino-U.S.relations.As a China expert,Lampton’s study is not consistent.He engaged in theChinese political reaserch early which paved the way for his study of Sino-U.S.relations in the future.So,this paper was based on the interpretation of literature onLampton.Through combing the line of Lampton’s study,to make a comprehensivestudy of David Lampton’s research of Sino-U.S. relations,then analysis thecharacteristics of his study of Sino-US relations.The main body of this paper is constructed by four chapters:Chapter one,an introduction of David Lampton’s biography and works.Theauthor introduces the reasons of Lampton falling into chinese study,and his school lifein America,his career in university and academic institutions.At the same time,theauthor also combes Lampton’s major works in chronological order.Chapter two,the author briefly combes the course of David Lampton’s researchand explored the reasons for the change of Lampton’s research content.DavidLampton engaged in the Chinese political studies early years,and he used“bureaucratic politics”in his study of political decision-making very well.But due toconversion of his personal experience,the background changes as well as Americanacademic reflection,Lampton gradually turned to the study of the Sino-U.S. relations.Chapter third is mainly an analysis of the academic properties and konwledgestructrue of David Lampton’s study of Sino-US relations,which namely included his discussion Global Mechanism with Sino-US relations,the national images andhistorical experience of Chinese and American,the individuals impact on Sino-U.S.relations and the criticism of the “China thereat theory”.Chapter four,On the basis of summing up before,through the research methodsand academic concepts,this paper will summarize and reveal the characteristics ofDavid Lampton’s study of Sino-U.S. relations.Through the wealth information and awide range of methods,David Lampton achieved a study with multi-levelanalysis.From the three levels of global,domestic and individuals,Lampton exploredtheir impact on Sino-US relations.At the same time,Lampton pay more attention to thepractical significance in the study of Sino-US relations.In addition,David Lamptonpay a more rational view of the relations between China and America and through theeyes of both Chinese and Americans to look at the bilateral relationship.The final part is the epilogue,in which sumarizes and outlines the main argumentand characters of David Lampton’s study of Sino-U.S. relations.
