On the basis of the research achievements concerned so far as it goes at home, this thesis analyses China's attitude towards the peace negotiations between U.S. and Vietnam and its evolution from 1965 to 1973, by analyzing the articles in People's Daily published in China during the period on this topic. The evolution of China's attitude on the issue of the peace negotiations between US and Vietnam fell into three periods: The first one was from March of 1965 to October of 1968, when China opposed various proposals of negotiations to settle Vietnam disputes, including Paris peace talks in 1968; The second one was from November of 1968 to February of 1972, while China's attitude was indefinite and changeful. It's a period of transition before China began to support the negotiations in public in July 1971, when the third period began. During this period, from July of 1972, China started to try its best to persuade Vietnam to come to terms with America in order to help make a breakthrough for the negotiations. To a great extent, the evolution of China's attitude towards the negotiations depended on the improvement of Sino-American relations, especially the process of their rapprochement. It's a prerequisite for China to change its attitude that the U.S. could assure China of a quick and definite withdrawal of all its forces from Vietnam and the whole of Indochina, which were great military menace to China since 1965. China began to support the negotiations when Kissinger's visit to China came to a certainty. Nixon's upgrade of Vietnam War and Kissinger's secret visit to China in 1972 urged China to play a persuasive role. With the persuasive influence of China, the negotiations succeeded in reaching a peace agreement in January of 1973.
