This article organizes and analyzes Zhao Yu’s reportages in the horizons of both content and form. The following investigation concerns with Zhao’s sports and social reportages in the level of content, the conclusions are as follows:the sports reportages through which Zhao’s thought "advise by critique" goes along indicate his sense of participation, responsibility and mission as an intellectual; while his indomitable and persistent sprite which is in order to "emerge the truth" pervades Zhao’s social ones. During the writing process, Zhao Yu makes the field investigation first and presents the facts of matter, after that, he emerges the facts of problem behind them. This truth-seeking spirit not only reflects the author’s professionalism, but also brightens the quality of the reportages.In the level of form, after Zhao Yu clarifies the innovation of form as the main direction, he strives for breakthrough in both structural and linguistical innovation. While such breakthrough and innovation are not like water without a source or a tree without roots, they are the achievements of reference and learning. He learns from fictions and dramas, in order to expand the structural space of reportages, thus the literary connotation of reportages will be stronger. Learning from Zhao Shuli shows Zhao Yu’s pursuit of art, he hopes of his own language which is intended to be terse and plain.After the dialectic interactions of "theme appeals the form" and "form subjugates the theme", Zhao Yu’s reportages achieve an advanced level. The issues that "what to write" and "how to write", which have perplexed us for quite a long time in the field of reportage, have been solved by him.The body of this article divided into three parts. The first chapter analyzes the essential character and the main trend of Zhao’s sports reportages, by taking his four works as examples, which are "Dreams of Powering the Country","The Waterloo in Seoul","Investigation of Ma Clique", and "The Secret of Basketball". The second chapter analyzes the thinking paths and the writing strategies, by taking his three works as examples, which are "The Vital Parts of China","The Confidence of Wang Mountain", and "The Victim". The third chapter emerges Zhao Yu’s pursuit of art in both aspects of construe and language, by analyzing his work "Searching Ba Jin’s Dai Li".
