The Research Of Han Suyin’s A Many-splendoured Thing From Feminist Perspective

Han Suyin is a famous British Chinese female writer incontemporary literary world, who is famous for“AMany-Splendoured Thing. The book was published in 1952,which caused a great sensation in the West. The exquisite,elegant style of writing was recognized by many Western criticsin the early Western critics, and the book was considered to bethe greatest novel of Han Suyin. Although A Many-SplendouredThing was written in English, the story is based on Hongkongand Chinese Mainland in mid-20th century as the background.However, due to various reasons, this excellent work is buried inChina for the long-term , whose chinese translation was notpublished in Chinese mainland until 2007. First of all , Han Suyinis a female writer, who showed the distinctive femaleconsciousness and unique female perspective in the novels.This paper mainly explore A Many-Splendoured Thing from theperspective of feminism.The paper is divided into four chapter: the first chapter isintroduction, the chapter mainly introduces Han Suyin and AMany-Splendoured Thing, domestic and international studies on Han Suyin ,the way and value of study.The second chapter analyzes the female consciousness andmixed-race identity seeking which is shown under the author’sfemale consciousness. HanSuyin’s female consciousness isparticularly evident in her and Mark’s love, and her emotionalexperiences three processes of depression, recovery anddisillusioned . At the same time, Her female identity and thecultural identity seeking which is more unique under theauthor’s female consciousness is shown throughout the novel.This problem is also discussed in this chapter .The third chapter mainly discusses female narrativestrategy in A Many-Splendoured Thing. This chapter analyzesnovel’s narrative strategy combined with feminist narrativetheory,from the female autobiographical narrative, femalefirst-person narrative, female historical narrative and narrativestyle and so on .The fourth chapter is conclusion which is review andsummary of the paper . The Feminism and female narrativestrategy in A Many-Splendoured Thing produces apocalypticsignificance to modern female literature creation.
