This study is to explore the authentic needs of English training for employeesworking in China’s FREs and their needs of subsequent English training aftergraduation in terms of learning targets, psychological concerns, learning motivationsand attitudes etc. under the guidance of needs analysis.The author combines quantitative and qualitative analysis (questionnaires andinterviews for employees in FREs) to carry out the research.160on-job employeeswere invited to cooperating with the author.72.5%of the employees (n=160,47ofwhich were invalid) are aged at their twenties or early thirties; to be accurate,individuals of males (n=61) and females (n=52) are mostly with college educationand with3to5years of work experience. In the paper, in-depth questions along withprivate interviews were conducted to obtain information regarding employees’thoughts on English training, their attitudes and motivations, psychological concerns,learning targets and preferences and learning aids, to name only a few, and suchspecific needs of taking English training. The questionnaire results and interviewscripts were analyzed systematically according to planned categorization, and wereexamined under verified themes. The findings prove that current English trainingcannot completely meet the employees’ needs with different learning motivations andattitudes or different learning-centered concerns. Employees’ specific target andlearning needs are identified in the research. Meanwhile, certain improvingsuggestions are given to better performing English training for employees in FREs,and references can be extracted for business English teaching in future.
