Light&Heavy Fly-on Chen Qian’s Novels

Searching for self-realization and longing eagerly to fly freely in the own world are alwaysthe the desire of the female characters that Chen Qian creates for the new immigrants in herworks. In order to realize their ideals, those figures under her pens began to search for a trip. Andfor once the desire being formed at the heart, they have to face with a variety of ethical conflictsand dilemmas from the lovers or husbands, mothers or sisters. In addition, meanwhile they mustbear the heavy historical memory and resist some irresistible temptations. All these challengesmake their trip of “flying” full of tension between "light" and "heavy". This encirclement andbackground make the characters out of the general flirtatious posture when pursuing theirintrinsic demands, and help the works reveal the contradictory and complex survival plight offemales. This is the first conclusion of this paper based on the analysis of the contents of ChenQian’s novels. Furthermore, this paper delves into the narrative method in the novels applied byChen Qian. It can be found that the text construction, namely, the narrative way also fits theaesthetic pursuit of " light" and" heavy", which is mainly reflected in the use of the spacenarration and back narration, rational narrative skills and emotional text effect etc. Lastly, thispaper also analyzes Chen Qian’s creation characteristics, such as the shaping of white-collarwomen of high-tech fields, and Chen Qian’s historical discourse, which are combined with thecreation environment and cultural background of new immigrant writers of North American,revealing the unique value of Chen qian’s novels in the North America literature of newimmigrants.
