On Vicissitude Of Literature About Chinese Green Mansion

Research on green mansion literature has a long history, but receives littleattentions.In the profound background of Chinese literature, this paper takes green mansionliterature as entry point and principle concerned object, covers all periods of its lifecycle,ranging from growing period of Tang and Song dynasties to culmination of Ming andQing dynasties, and then to withering period of late Qing dynasty, and tries to discoverdevelopment route of green mansion literature. From the perspective of poetics,research on green mansion literature plays a very important role. Its vicissitude fromprosperity to recession reflects great transformation of Chinese history and culture. Thispaper consists of four parts:The first part overviews green mansion literature, including its definition and therelationship between prostitutes and literature.The second part describes prosperity and recession of green mansion literature. InTang dynasty, drunkenness and sexual dissipation were a living fashion which youthpursued. scholar-bureaucrats eagered to marry girls of famous last name regardless oflove. Green mansions were the best location for them to search spirit support and mentalbalance. Brothel literature was splendid during Tang and Song Dynasties, many workstook love as the theme, but the most appealing, ideological and aesthetic ones werealways those exceeded the bounds of propriety, pursued equality. It began decline in themiddle of Qing Dynasty, this time people paid more attention to sex of prostitutes thanto aesthetic pursuit of talents and arts. after SaiJinhua and little FengXian, prostitutetimes almost end, brothel literature doomed.The third part discusses the rise and fall of the brothel literature. Tang Song YuanMing and Qing Dynasties, scholars and writers affiliated with prostitutes. prosperity andrecession of brothel literature reflected not only tremendous changes of social politics, history and economy, but also personality transformation and evolution ofscholar-bureaucrats. In the golden age of poetics, the brothel literature produced a deepbrand. Some brothel motif could be found in poetry, and thus spread so far tonowadays. In Yuan Dynasty, art flourished and geisha prospered. In Ming and earlyQing dynasties brothel literature absorbed its achievement of all ages.The fourth part talks about significance and positive implication of brothelliterature research. In the era of commodity economy and consumerism, people only toseek spiritual sustenance from ancient couterpart, to realize a kind of poetic dwelling. Itis at this level, the author thinks the brothel literature studies has very importantpractical significance to contemporary cultural workers on how to construct the systemof literature and literary industrialization. How can classical literature go down from thealtar? How can it get rid of the ignored destiny? and How can it change people’sspiritual world and the realm of thought? the author would like to answer thesequestions.
