Abstract/Summary:
Similes are widely used in different languages, and because of the differences oflanguages the vehicles are different which become barriers of second languageacquisition.This thesis is focused on those simile’s that are related to people. According tothe survey of CCL corpus, using the questionnaire method to investigate the differentchoices of the vehicles, my studies concentrated on the students who speak English、Korean and Japanese. Investigated the specific impact of cultural factors on simileacquisition and made some teaching suggestions.This thesis is comprised of five parts:Chapter one is the introduction of this treatise. It mainly refers to the reasons ofchoosing this thesis, significance and research methods.Chapter two is the literature review. In this chapter the author reviews theexisting related studies about similes and the teaching of the rhetoric and similes inthe Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language (TCFL).Chapter three investigated the simile acquisition of the foreign students in theadvanced stage. In this chapter I explained the questionnaire design process anddiscussed the relation of the culture and the selection of the vehicles according to thequestionnaire analysis.Chapter four presents the teaching suggestions in two aspects, one is from theperspective of different levels of students and the other is from the teachers.Chapter five is the conclusion, I discuss factors that may are not in my researchand lastly I put forward ideas of further research.
