Diabetic retinopathy is the most common and serious complication caused by diabetes. Its development is associated with many factors, the disease mechanism is very complex. DR is the leading cause of blindness in diabetic patients and now has become the world’s hot issue. The pathological mechanism of diabetic retinopathy is the damage of retinal microvascular, it can cause abnormal expression of a large number of related factors in eyes, even lead to blindness, seriously affect the quality of life, In clinical work, we found the diabetic patients accompanied by myopic refractive error have less severe DR, especially in high myopia, lower incidence of DR, the degree of myopia is negatively correlated with the development of diabetic retinopathy. From this we can detect the factors concentration in the vitreous body related to DR who are diabetes mellitus accompany with high myopia to investigate the blocking mechanism of high myopia to diabetic retinopathy. A number of studies showed that vascular endothelial growth factor and erythropoietin is closely related to the development of DR, and they are independent risk factors for DR, thus we can carries on the determination to discuss the block mechanism.Purpose:By measuring the vascular endothelial growth factor and erythropoietin levels of high myopia accompanied with diabetic mellitus patients, reveal the effect of high myopia on the development of diabetic retinopathy and the influence mechanism. Methods:Using enzyme linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA) to detect the vascular endothelial growth factor and erythropoietin levels in the vitreous body in vitrectomy, including control group18cases18eyes, pure high myopia16cases16eyes, proliferative diabetic retinopathy15cases15eyes,13cases13eyes of high myopia patients with diabetes mellitus. Results:The mean value of VEGF in vitreous body of control group is152.8+35.2pg/ml, the EPO is74.3±16.5IU/L, the VGEF of pure high myopia is81.3±17.5pg/ml, the EPO is65.1±13.7IU/L, the VEGF of PDR is826.3+363.2pg/ml, the EPO is649.8±267.9IU/L, the VEGF of high myopia with diabetes mellitus is309.4±138.7pg/ml, the EPO is156.2±56.7IU/L.Conclusion:1. The mean value of VEGF、EPO of pure high myopia are lower than control group, and the VEGF has significant difference;2. The mean value of VEGF、EPO of high myopia with diabetes mellitus are higher than control group, lower than PDR;3. Either two groups has significance difference about VEGF;4. Either two groups has significance difference about EPO except control group and pure high myopia;5. High myopia via reducing the VEGF and EPO levels in the vitreous body to block the development of diabetic retinopathy.
