Objective:To explore the safety and efficacy of laparoscopic surgery in the diagnosis and treatment of intestinal obstruction. Methods:From March2007to May2011, we performed a prospective study of laparoscopy in the diagnosis and treatment of intestinal obstruction, through the assessment of all the11patients with intestinal obstruction requiring surgery those who mainly included sigmoid volvulus, intestinal obstruction caused by hawthorn Stone or other unexplained and, we retrospectively analyzed their important datas which included patient selection, preoperative evaluation, preoperative treatment, surgery, postoperative treatment. Results:There were no conversion to open surgery in all the11patients; they all achieved the success diagnosis and treatment with laparoscopy. There was no significant difference in term of operative time, blood loss, postoperative gastrointestinal function recovery time and postoperative hospital stay between the laparoscopic and open surgery. One of the11patients died due to peritoneal metastasis of gastric cancer, the rest had no complications occurred and recurrence of intestinal obstruction. Conclusions:compared with conventional open surgery, laparoscopy has the advantage of slight pains, shorter hospital stays, fewer complications, safe, feasible and effective. To establish initial operating space, preoperative evaluation and necessary measures is very important, for example, the application of gastric intubation, stent placement etc. before establishment of pneumoperitoneum, a comprehensive assessment of the history, imaging data is important for the establishment of pneumoperitoneum, notely importantfor placement of the first Trocar in patients with unexplained intestinal obstruction. However, laparoscopic techniques is not exactly the same, difficult, highly unpredictable, to further reduce the recurrence rate, you need to start from a number of aspects, strictly select those patients who are suitable to this approach.
