ObjectiveTo introduce treatment experiences of soft tissue malignant tumors ofthe hand.MethodsThe clinical data of42cases of soft tissue malignant tumors of the handwith pathological diagnosis from1998to2012were retrospectively analyzed. The clinical features, diagnosis and surgical management were reviewed andstudied.ResultsThere were18squamous cell carcinoma,17melanoma,3fibrosarcoma,1synovial sarcoma,1cutaneous T cell lymphoma,1neuroblastoma and1epithelioid sarcoma. The soft tissue malignant tumors in the finger regionwere29, in the palm region6, in the dorsum of hand6and in wrist1. Therewere total of9mortality cases, of which brain metastasis4cases, lungmetastasis3cases and bone metastasis2cases. Out of42cases stage II40cases, stage III one case and stage IV one case. The survival rate differencebetween the melanoma of the finger group compared to the squamous cellcarcinoma of the finger group was statistically non significant (p=0.860>0.05). The survival rate difference between salvaging thumb-function groupand the metacarpophalangeal-joint-level amuputation group was statisticallysignificant (p=0.022<0.05). ConclusionA common soft tissue malignant tumors of the hand were melanomaand squamous cell carcinoma. Most soft tissue malignant tumors of the handexisted in the finger, especially the thumb. The amuputation above two jointsshould be the main choice of treatment of soft tissue malignant tumors of thefinger. The limb salvage operation should be the choice for low-gradesquamous cell carcinoma of the palm.
