Homalium cochinchinense is a traditional Chinese folk medicine, used for hemostasis and gonorrhea. Homalium stenophyllum leaves are used as heat-clearing and detoxifying medicine treating sore. The genus contains alkaloids, glycosides, coumarin, triterpenes and other chemical constituents, with anti-virus, diabetes and other pharmacological activities. It has been not study on pharmacognosy and biological activity research, only be limited to chemical constituents.It is the first that a pharmacognosy study of Homalium paniculiforum, including pharmacognosy identification, chemical composition analysis and ultraviolet spectrophotometry and infrared spectrometry. The results of phannacognostical identification accurately stated special features of Homalium paniculiforum.The pre-experiments show that the chemical composition of Homalium paniculiforum stems may be contain protein and polysac charide, steroidal, flavonoids, triterpene, quinone, tannin and other chemical components. Ultraviolet spectrophotometric indicate the possible existence of a benzene ring or certain aromatic heterocyclic compounds. Powder infrared spectrophotometric show the possible existence of phenols, polysaccharide, volatile oil, and triterpene, cellulose. These chemical component prediction results both show its chemical profiles.Research antioxidant and antibacterial activity on Homalium paniculiforum stem extract by using two antioxidant activity and antibacterial screening model respectively for comprehensive comparison with different polar solvent (petroleum ether, ethyl acetate, n-butanol, water) and different extraction methods (accelerated solvent extraction, conventional solvent method). Antioxidant activity screening results are as follows: Rutin>Vc>BHT>NBA>ASE-EtOAc>EtOAc>ASE-W>W>ASE-NBA>ASE-MSO>MSO. Except for ASE-NBA, accelerated solvent extract of DPPII free radical scavenging ability is stronger than conventional solvent extract. In all extracts, NBA has the strongest DPPH free radical scavenging capacity, MSO is the weakest. Reduction capability:Vc>Rutin>NBA> ASE-EtOAc>BHT>EtOAc>ASE-NBA>W>ASE-W>ASE-MSO>MSO. NBA, ASE-EtOAc reduction of Fe3+total antioxidant capacity is stronger than BHT, weaker than Vc and Rutin NBA reduction of Fe3+power is the strongest (FRAP value=434.8±51.3mol TE/g), MSO is the weakest. Comprehensive comparison of the antioxidant activity results, NBA clearing DPPH and Fe3+total antioxidant capacity is the strongest. Screening for antimicrobial activity was as follows:ASE method has not obvious influence in K-B antibacterial ability and resazurin microwell method. The two methods showed low polar solvent petroleum ether, ethyl acetate extracts antibacterial ability stronger than polar solvent n-butanol, water extracts, and MSO, EtOAc, ASE-EtOAc in two methods showed some inhibitory ability to all the tested strains, MSO is the best.Screening antioxidant activity and flavones content of NBA, it found that NBA-13, NBA-16have higher antioxidant activity and total flavone content.
