Objective:This study examined expression of hypoxia inducible factor-1a (hypoxia-inducible factor1a, HIF-1a) and tumor cell proliferation antigen Ki67in breast cancer tissues, adjacent tissues and benign breast tissues; analysis the correlation between HIF-1a and Ki67as well as the relationship with the biological behavior of breast cancer. Methods:Using Immunohistochemistry HRP method to detect expression of HIF-1a and Ki67in70cases of breast cancer, adjacent tissues and10cases of benign breast tumor tissues. Results:The positive expression rates of HIF-1a and Ki67in70cases of breast cancer respectively for78.6%(55/70) and88.6%(62/70), and the rates of adjacent tissues respectively for45.7%(32/70) and2.9%(2/70), as well as, the positive expression rates of HIF-1a in10cases of benign breast tumor tissue was30%(3/10) while Ki67expression rate was negative. Therefore, the positive expression rates of HIF-1a and Ki67in breast cancer were significantly higher than that in adjacent tissues and benign breast tumor tissues (P<0.01); the positive expression rates of HIF-1a and Ki67has no significant correlation with age, menopausal status, tumor size and clinical stage. They are closely related with lymph node metastasis and histological grade (P<0.05); The expression intensity of HIF-1a and Ki67had correlated in breast cancer(P <0.05),but they have not correlation in adjacent tissues and benign breast tumor tissues (P>0.05)Conclusions:The expression of HIF-1a are high in breast cancer and are associated with the malignancy degree of tissue. It may be important indicators of predicted the invasion, metastasis and prognosis in breast cancer. There was a correlation in the expression intensity of HIF-1a and Ki67. It suggested that HIF-1a may be affected on tumor cell proliferation of breast cancer through some interaction or they affected each other. So, HIF-1expected to become a new target for treatment of breast cancer, worthy for further study.
