Objective:To investigate the Clinical Significance and Changes of Interleukin18(IL-18) and Interleukin18binding protein(IL-18BP) in serum of HIV-1infestors.Methods:The levels of Interleukin18(IL-18) and Interleukin18binding protein(IL-18BP) in serum were detected by Enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA)in67cases of HIV-1infestors and18cases of healthy persons; The levels of CD4+helper T cell (CD4+T)and cytotoxic T lymphocyte (CD8+T)in blood of67cases of HIV-1infestors were determinede by Flow Cytometry. Results:1. The levels of IL-18in serum of HIV-1group were significantly higher than those of control group (P<0.01), the levels of IL-18in serum of HIV-1group A were higher than those of control group (P<0.05); The levels of IL-18in serum of HIV-1group B and HIV-1group C were significantly higher than those of control group (P<0.01); There is no differences was observed in the serum IL-18concentrations among the HIV-1groups. The levels of IL-18BP in serum of HIV-1group were significantly higher than those of control group (P<0.01), the levels of IL-18in serum of three HIV-1groups were higher than those of control group (P<0.05); There is no differences was observed in the serum IL-18BP concentrations among the HIV-1groups. The ratios of CD8to CD4of HIV-1group A were higher than the group B and C.2. The levels of IL-18and IL-18BP in serum of the HIV-1group that the levels of CD4+helper T cell was between200and500were significantly higher than those of control group (P<0.01), The levels of IL-18in serum of the HIV-1group that the levels of CD4+helper T cell was less than200was significantly higher than those of control group (P<0.01), The level of IL-18BP in serum of the HIV-1group that the levels of CD4+helper T cell was less than200was higher than those of control group (P<0.05), There is no differences were observed in the serum IL-18and IL-18BP concentrations between the HIV-1group that the levels of CD4+helper T cell was over500,There is no differences were observed inthe serum IL-18and IL-18BP concentrations among the HIV-1groups.3. A significant positive correlation was found between the levels of IL-18and IL-18BP in healthy persons(r=0.705.P<0.01). The levels of IL-18had no correlation with the levels of IL-18BP in serum of three HIV-1groups.4.The levels of IL-18in serum had no correlation with the levels of CD4+helper T cell in blood in all HIV-1groups. The levels of IL-18BP in serum had no correlation with the levels of CD4+T cell in blood in all HIV-1groups. Conclusions:Increased levels of IL-18and IL-18BP may play important roles in the occurrence and progression of AIDS, and IL-18/IL-18BP imbalance may participate in it too. Dynamic monitoring of IL-18and IL-18BP in peripheral blood can be used as a reflection of the immune function of state changes index in HIV-1infected patients, regulate the balance between IL-18and IL-18BP may provide a new approach for the treatment of AIDS. To conduct Highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) early can reduce the degree of IL-18/IL-18BP imbalance.
