Objective:To examine the expression of protein Numb and p53in58cases of papillary thyroidcarcinoma tissue, and analyze the correlation between the each protein and the carcinoma, and its role in the occurrence and the development of papillary thyroid carcinoma. Methods:In this study, we use SP immunohistochemistry to detect the expression of proteinNumb and p53in58cases of papillary thyroid carcinoma tissue and25cases of benignthyroid tissue, and use SPSS13.0statistical analysis software to analyze the correlationbetween each protein and the carcinoma, and its relationship with thyroid cancer clinicalindexes.Results:1. The positive expression rate of Numb is67.24%in papillary thyroid carcinoma tissue, which is significantly higher than in thyroid adenoma tissue and nodular goiter tissue(P<0.01). The expression of Numb is correlated to papillary thyroid carcinoma clinicalstaging and lymph node metastasis (P <0.05), and has nothing to do with tumor size, and theage and the gender of the patients (P>0.05).2. The positive expression rate of p53is18.97%in papillary thyroid carcinoma tissue, which is significantly higher than in thyroid adenoma tissue and nodular goiter tissue(P<0.05). The expression of p53is correlated to papillary thyroid carcinoma clinical stagingand lymph node metastasis (P <0.01), and has nothing to do with tumor size, and the age andthe gender of the patients (P>0.05).3. In papillary thyroid carcinoma, through rank correlation analysis, the expressionbetween Numb and p53showed negative correlation (rs=-0.506, P=0.000317).Conclusion:1. The expression of Numb in papillary thyroid carcinoma is significantly higher than in benign thyroid tissue. The expression of Numb is correlated to papillary thyroid carcinomaclinical staging and lymph node metastasis, indicated that up-regulated Numb may play arole in thyroid cancer development.2. The expression of p53in papillary thyroid carcinoma is significantly higher than inbenign thyroid tissue. The expression of p53is correlated to papillary thyroid carcinomaclinical staging and lymph node metastasis, indicated that the up-regulation of p53can beused as an indicator to determine the degree of malignancy of thyroid cancer.3. The expression of Numb and p53is negatively correlated in papillary thyroidcarcinoma, suggesting that the interaction between the two proteins may play a importantrole in the development of thyroid cancer.
