Objective:To observe therapeutic effect of the shufengxuanfeitang on chronic cough caused by Eosinophilic bronchitis(EB) belong to wind shing twin acute syndrome in TCM and study chinese traditional and western treatments and its action mechanism on EB.Methods:60patients with EB belong to wind shing twin acute syndrome in TCM were randomly divided into two groups:the treament group and the control group.The treamtent group took orally shufengxuanfeitang while the control group inhaled Pulmicort aerosol, one month as a course of treatment. Before and after the treatment, the symptom of cough, quality of life effected by cough and analysis of induced sputum cytology were recorded.Results:After treatment, the total effective rate about relieving cough of the treatment group and the control group was86.6%and63.3.%respectively, with no statistical significance between them.(P>0.05); There were24patients (80.0%) in the treatment group whose proportion of eosinophils in induced sputum converted to normal after treatment, while the control group, only14patients (46.7%), with statistical significance between them. The total effective rate about improving quality of life effected by cough of the treatment group and the control group were80%and50%respectively, with statistical significance between them.(P<0.05). During the treatment period, no side effects were found in the treatment group, but in the control group three patients felt mild discomfort in throat.Conclusion:Both of the shufengxuanfeitang and Pulmicort aerosol can improve clinical symptoms of EB,in addition the shufengxuanfeitang has less side effects than the Pulmicort aerosol.
