Objective:To identify the sonographic characteristics of foot and ankle in normal adults and patients.Metheds:Ultrasonography and the sonographic characteristics of muscles, tendon, ligament, retinaculum, nerves, vascules and bones in60foot and ankles with17men and13women in good health were described and recorded; the cross-sectional area of tibial nerve of the tarsal tunnel and front of ankle the deep fibular nerve were measured; the peak systolic velocity and so on of the anterior medial malleolar artery, anterior lateral malleolar artery, medial tarsal artery, lateral tarsal artery, perforating branch of fibular artery and deep plantar artery were measured;the sonographic characteristics of pathological changes foot and ankles in60patients were described and recorded.Resultsr:In this study,observed the sonographic imagings of many sections of foot and ankels in normal adults with the anatomic landmark of bones, muscles, tendons, vascellums and nerves; illuminated the sonographic characteristics of calcaneal tendon, tarsal tunnel, ankle of the front and lateral; dorsum of foot and sole of foot muscles,tendon,ligament and bursa synovialis running were describerd;identified the characteristics of the ultrasound anatomy of the dorsal and plantar arteries;collected60cases of foot or ankle disease, sonographic features of foot and ankle common diseases were recorded; measured the mean cross-sectional area of tibial nerve of the tarsal tunnel and front of Ankle the deep fibular nerve17case34branches in men (17branches were at the left,17branches were at the right); measured the mean cross-sectional area of tibial nerve of the tarsal tunnel and front of ankle the deep fibular nerve13case26branches in women (13branches were at the left,13branches were at the right); measured the mean peak systolic velocity. Statistics analysis showed:the difference in cross-sectional area of tibial nerve of the tarsal tunnel and front of ankle the deep fibular nerve between men and women were significant (p<0.05), the difference in cross-sectional area of tibial nerve of the tarsal tunnel and front of ankle the deep fibular nerve between left and right were not significant (p>0.05)Conclusion:High-frequency ultrasound as a preferred noninvasive examination can be used for foot and ankles in normal adults and patients and it was worth to spread in clinic application.
