Objective:To preliminary study clearing heat and detoxication effects of Eupatorium chinense L. and to preliminarily study the analgesic and anti-inflammatory effect of the Papaya extract. Methods: Models of xylene-induced mouse ear swelling, glucocorticoid-induced mouse immune suppression and dry yeast-induced rat fever were applied to study the clearing heat and detoxication effects of Eupatorium chinense LModels of acetic acid-induced mouse writhing, xylene-induced mouse ear swelling, acid-induced increase in permeability of peritoneal capillaries, and cotton pellet-induced granuloma formation in rats were used to study anti-intlammatory and antinociceptive effects of Papaya extract. Raw264.7cell line was used to study the in vitro effect. Cell metabolic activity was assayed by MTT test and nitric oxide(NO) release was evaluated by Griess test.Statistical analysis:SPSS13.0statistical software was applied for statistical analysis. Continuous variables were described as as Mean+SD and analyzed by One-way ANOVA (Analysis of Variance). Test of homogeneity of variances was carried out prior to ANOVA. If the variance was of homogeneity, LSD method was used for multiple comparison, otherwise, Dunnett’s T3method was adopted for multiple comparison, using F and P values by Welch correction analysis of variance. Significance level was set at a=0.05and P<0.05was considered to be statistical significance. Results:Eupatorium chinense L. inhibited ear swelling, improved the immune function in immunosupressed mice and reduced the fever induced by yeast in rats. The Papaya extract obviously reduced writhing response, inhibited ear swelling, decreased the permeability of capillary, and restrained granuloma. The effect of high dose group (400mg/kg) of the extract was similar to that of asprin group at the dose of100mg/kg.In vitro study revealed that the Papaya extract reduced the release of NO induced by LPS.Conclusion:Eupatorium chinense L. has the effects of clearing heat and detoxication. Papaya extract has the effects of analgesia and inhibition of inflammation.
