BACKGROUND&OBJECTIVEUrinary calculi is one common disease, and how to prevent its recurrence is also clinically important. With complicated mechanism of urinary calculi formation, the formation can’t finish without the supersaturation of stone-formation material and the imbalance between inhibitors and promoters of stone-formating process. At first,Robertson put forward the concept of risk factors of renal calculus, including urine PH,Calcium, oxalate, uric acid, acid mucopolysaccharide (AMPS),urine volume.Based on this method, several Chinese doctors including Zhang Deyuan obtained the Chinese probability of stone formation (Psf). To evaluate its effect in the prevention of recurrence of urinary calculi, half dose of Niaoshitong pill(one commonly used drugs) has been used in this study, with the measurement of Psf both before and after the medication.METHODSAll the patients were made a definite diagnosis of kidney stone(diameter<8mm) by B ultrasound and KUB, not including hydronephrosis、fever (temperature>37℃)、 urinary infection、renal failure、women in pregnancy and lactation. With ordinary diet(food rich in oxalic acid were limited) and normal working conditions, drugs withheld a week, patient were examined with urine PH、 calcium phosphorus、oxalate、uric acid、acid mucopolysaccharide (AMPS)、urine volume of24H urine, and probability of stone formation (Psf) were calculated. Then Niaoshitong pill were taken2grams each time and2times a day.One month later, same items and the B ultrasound were reexamined. With software of SPSS18.0, T test were performed in the two group data. RESULTSDuring1month, expulsion of stones was observed in9cases(60%), renal colic occurred and analgesics was used in1case(6.67%). All the patients tolerated the expulsive therapy and no one withdrew from the treatment. No obvious side effect occurred. Calcium, phosphorus, oxalate, PH, acid mucopolysaccharide (AMPS) and the probability of stone formation (Psf) had significantly changed after the treatment (P<0.05), but no significant changes occurred in uric acid or urine volume (P>0.05).CONCLUSIONSIt is demonstrated that half dose of Niaoshitong pill has a positive effect on the risk factors of renal calculus, and it can significantly lower the probability of stone formation (Psf).
