Objective: To investigate the influence of two different managements of the rawcut surface on patients who underwent hepatic resection.Method: A retrospective study of49patients who underwent hepatic resection inour institution from May2010to December2011was performed. All patients weregrouped according to two different managements of the raw cut surface withsaturation(n=22)or not(n=27). The differences between the two groups wereanalyzed. Results: No cases of death or postoperative bleeding or bile leakage occurred ineither group. There were no significant differences between the two groups in the sizeof lesion, extent of surgical resection, the size of the raw cut surface, operation time, time of hepatic pedicle occlusion, serum total bilirubin and albumin and prothrombintime on day7after operation, hospital stay after operation and the total hospital stay. And there was no difference of operative blood loss (274.07±243.12ml vs 283.18±214.33ml) and amount of transfusion (133.33±470.68ml vs36.36±170.56ml)and postoperative drainage(522.22±832.34ml vs437.05±679.87ml) between the twogroups respective (P value>0.05). The differences of ALT (50.44±25.05U/L vs109.45±66.65U/L) and AST (24.74±8.16U/L vs34.00±16.54U/L) on day7afteroperation between the two groups was statistical significance,P value<0.05.Conclusions: The management of the raw cut surface with saturation in hepaticresection neither reduce operative blood loss and amount of transfusion,do notdecrease postoperative drainage. Conversely, the management of the raw cut surfacewithout saturation,as long as if only treat damaged blood vessels and bile ducts well, not only decrease injury and avoid ischemia of the liver parenchyma which may bebenefit for liver function, avoid vascular injury caused by saturation, but also do notincrease the mortality rate and complications, such as postoperative bleeding and bileleakage. And it is a safe and effective management of the raw cut surface of the liver.
