Objective:To explore the changes and significances of the serum levels of d-dimer (D-D),matrix metalloproteinase-9(MMP-9) and tissue inhibitor-1of metalloproteinase (TIMP-1) inpatients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in acute exacerbation periodbefore and after treatment.Methods:37patients with COPD in acute exacerbation period and30the normal controlswere selected. The serum levels of d-dimer, MMP-9and TIMP-1before and after treatmentwere tested with enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA).Results:(1) In the COPD group, the serum levels of d-dimer, MMP-9and TIMP-1beforeand after treatment are higher than those in the control group, the differences are significant(P﹤0.01, P﹤0.05), especially the serum levels of TIMP-1more significant (P﹤0.01). Thelevels of d-dimer, MMP-9and TIMP-1after treatment are lower than those before treatmentin the COPD group, the differences are significant (P﹤0.05).(2) No matter before and aftertreatment the serum levels of d-dimer and MMP-9, the d-dimer and TIMP-1and the MMP-9and TIMP-1have good positive correlation in the COPD group. The correlation coefficientbefore treatment is greater than that after treatment.Conclusion:(1) The concentration of d-dimer, MMP-9and TIMP-1is higher and it promptsthere might be hypercoagulability or prethrombotic state in patients with COPD in acuteexacerbation period. The state might be better in a certain degree after treatment.(2) The serum levels of d-dimer and MMP-9have good positive correlation in patients with COPD,and the both may be used as reaction factors in the acute phase of COPD. The consistency ofthe levels changes of TIMP-1and MMP-9before treatment is different from that aftertreatment. The influence factors of the expression level of the both are complex, and theunbalance of the both is particularly outstanding in patients with COPD in acuteexacerbation period.
